Breathe in the fresh spring Highland air, see spring colours and young animals and listen to the sounds of bird song and waterfalls. These are just some of the experiences you will have on a spring visit to Atholl Estates.
All the family can enjoy our dawn Land Rover tours, tractor and trailer tours around the Home Farm, or tours around the castle for all ages. Explore the attics of Blair Castle, take part in children’s activities, join a ranger-led walk or discover the estate’s spring wildlife on the back of a Highland pony. Saturdays during spring are family days at the estate, starting with dawn tours followed by children’s activities at the castle, falconry displays and handling sessions, and finishing with farm tours.
Spring is the time of the mating displays of black and red grouse as well as the elusive capercaillie. Peregrine falcons can be seen in their display flights, while golden eagles and osprey ten their nests and ptarmigan are changing their plumage. Look for lambs from April, cow and deer calves in May and June, and brown hares ‘boxing’ in the fields around our Home Farm. Red squirrels are also preparing for their young.
Cherry blossoms, daffodils, bluebells and other spring bulbs colour Hercules Garden and the woodlands of Atholl, and the new leaves appear on the trees.
On the 28 May 2008, the season’s first Celtic Evening at Blair Castle takes place on the castle forecourt. |
