Electrifying Intercontinental Rally Challenge roared into Blair Castle
Blair Castle welcomed the exhilarating inaugural RACSMA Car Rally last week which used Blair Castle as a service park. This was the final round of the prestigious Intercontinental Rally Challenge and visitors soaked up the rally atmosphere in the sunshine whilst seeing the cars and drivers close up and enjoying the refreshment and comfort stop facilities as they followed the rally’s progress. The final round of the prestigious Intercontinental Rally Challenge was exclusive to Scotland and a centrepiece event within the Homecoming Scotland 2009 celebrations.
Blair Castle hosts a number of prestigious events of this stature throughout the year. They work closely with caterer Prestige Scotland and this event was yet another great example of a high calibre of events the hospitality and venue teams are capable of delivering. Prestige Scotland provides the highest level of catering and hospitality services to some of the leading venues and events in Scotland. The company is recognised as the market leader in the provision of private and corporate hospitality in Scotland.
The facilities at Blair Castle are second to none and for the RACSMA Car Rally, the whole castle was used to service the requirements of the event. The Ballroom was used as a VIP corporate hospitality and dining area for clients such as Peugeot and Skoda. Prestige Scotland catered for approximately 140 people attending the lunch. The day started with a hot breakfast on arrival from 7.30am followed by a choice of Poached Fillet of Salmon with Dill & Caper Mayonnaise, Beef Pot Roast with Haggis Dumplings or Chicken in a Mustard & Mushroom Cream for Lunch. This was accompanied by a Dressed Crisp Leaf Salad, Roasted red pepper & tomato, pasta salad, Carrot & toasted almond salad covered in a ginger dressing and Served with Warm Potatoes. To finish, guests enjoyed a piece of Chocolate Tart served with Raspberry Coulis or Rhubarb Brulee followed by freshly brewed Fair-trade Coffee & Scottish Tablet.
Blair Castle’s Garry Room was used as a Media Centre. One of the requirements for the centre was internet access and phone lines. The team at the castle activated the phone lines and enlisted the services of an external company to install the Wifi modem for the internet access. The Commentary team, located near the bridge, also required internet access so cables were run from the Garry Room out of the window and around the perimeter of the Castle to reach their section. The Castle restaurant provided breakfast for the Media and staffing team in the morning and then regular meals were available for them for the duration of the day.
The Castle forecourt and Castle Car Park were used as service areas for the vehicles during the rally. Portable toilets were brought in and located around the estate, and an external catering company was brought in to provide food for the spectators in the grounds. A big screen TV was erected near the spectator’s site so that they could watch the competitors during the race at different stages.
